The climate of the middle colonies was warm in summers and cool in the winters. They had a longer growing season then other colonies. Since the middle colonies had a long growing season, were able to farm more which allowed them to get more goods. Some of these goods were wheat, fruit, and vegetables. The middle colonies also had many rivers such as the Hudson River, Susquehanna River, and the Delaware River. The geography of the middle colonies caused their economy to thrive.There was a lot of sun and rain. Colonists used riverboats on long, to travel on the rivers. They sent crops to sell in nearby towns. Colonists also hunted for food and fur.

Many families in the Middle Colonies were farmers. Men, women, and children all worked long hours in the fields and in the home. Boys helped men harvest crops. Girls did housework such as sewing and cooking. The farmers sold extra grain and livestock in the cities. Farmers used rivers to ship their goods. Merchants there sold the farmers goods to other colonies and nations.As in the other English colonies, the Middle Colonies had a free market economy. Many of the Children would learn specific jobs The middle colony a low class, a medium class, and a high class. The middle colonies were the big food producing region that included corn and wheat and livestock including beef and pork. Pennsylvania was known as the Holy Experiment. Men most of the time would go to work or work on their farm while the women stayed home for house work. A whole colonial family could work at the same time in a farm but have different jobs. The low class included the slaves, the middle class were farmers, shoemakers, coopers, and many other people, The high class were the nobles.

The middle colonies produced paper, flour, and iron. Cattle, fish, grain, iron, lumber, and rum were goods the middle colonies made and acquired. Making barrels was one way people made money in the Middle Colonies. Algonkian and Iroquois were Native American tribes that could be found in the middle colonies. The middle colonies had a big trade center because it had a good harbor. Ships brought goods from other colonies and from Europe. The middle colonies were also known as the breadbasket. They produced an excess amount of wheat allowed made their economy grow.
